Art is everywhere…

In Haiti, art is everywhere, even in the Grand Rue ghetto (Haitian Creole for “slum”), where French-American artist Pascal Giacomini landed and worked for a month alongside a collective of Vodou (aka Voodoo) sculptors creating art for sale on local and foreign art markets.

Based in Los Angeles, Giacomini had applied for and was accepted to participate in the 2nd Ghetto Biennale, an international art festival based in the Grand Rue slum, situated in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

As he worked to create three large-scale sculptures with whatever he could find on the ground—just like the locals—he started documenting the feverish artistic activity in this unlikely place.

In the process, his project expanded….
